Patsy Rodenburg defines presence as three circles the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd circle. The first circle are shy and sort of have a defense system up. The second circle is being aware and always ready. The third circle is someone who is pompous and over exaggerated with their speech and gestures. The true actors live in the second circle because they are always ready for anything.

The ways that presence can be lost is by people getting in their own heads. If you let your gut and natural impulse guide you your actions you would be able to be more present and able to communicate best with people. Sometimes complete honesty is not the rational way to deal with humanity considering having a truly present and honest person as a friend is a lot to handle.

The first circle is like the past. It is what holds someone back from doing something that really want to do. This is how most shy people are they put their guard up and to try to protect themselves from getting hurt.

The third circle is like the future. It is people who are obnoxious and over exaggerated. It is a defense mechanism for people with large egos. It is when someone tries to overpower everyone with their words or personality. The third circle is overpowering and unnecessary.

The second circle is the present. It is being the moment and being ready for anything. It is reacting to what is around you and being able to fully be who you are with anyone and anything. The second circle is being able to fully be honest with everyone around you and being able to reveal yourself and everything you have been through to be able to relate to the person you are speaking to

The second circle is where everyone should live.

The second circle is honest

Everyone living in the circle would either be beautiful or the end of the world

Topic 1

1. Why are you taking this class?

I'm taking Movement because it is required but also I've heard from other students that it helped them out in just learning how their body work and how they can use it as a tool to express themselves and that is something that would be awesome to understand.

2. What is your major?

I am a Performance Theatre major but I may also double concentrate and do film and TV also.

3. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I guess I am kind of in the middle mainly because in high school people were cruel and I keep everything in but ever since I got to college I refuse to not express my feelings. Sometimes though when I am mad or upset I will be quiet. People say I am plotting my way to kill everyone but I stay quiet so I do not blow up on anyone. So Basically extrovert.

4. What questions/subjects/hobbies are you most interested in?

Well I really like just being able to pick up random skills but ever since I went skydiving i have wanted to take the solo jumping course. I also like learning phrasing in other languages so I can confuse people or curse them out in other languages. I also really like Voice Overs ever since I saw the movie In a World and animations interest me lot too.

5. What does presence mean to you? Do you have "it"?

Presence means that you have the ability of  people knowing who you are and what you want when you walk into the room without even saying a word. No, I do not have that I have to speak for people to know I am in the room.

6. How do you feel about your body?

I feel like I do not fit in my body I do a lot of strange things and I feel like I always look stupid whenever I am interacting with people.

7. In what ways are you confident or proud about your body or your ways of moving?

Well I can admit I don't have much confidence in my body but I just kind of act stupid all the time so I have just gotten to the point that I do not care how I look but it would be awesome to be able to not look horrible when I am acting stupid. The one thing that I am proud about it that I am comfortable with being me no matter how dumb I look. My mom once told me when I was a child and I went into her room talking about how this doesn't fitt right this makes me look weird she said "Well can you change that in five minutes." When I proceed to say no she said "Then don't worry about it." So mainly when it comes to how I look I push away my negative thoughts and don't worry about it, which I am proud of.

8. In what ways are you self-conscious about your body or ways of moving?

I will always see videos or picture or myself and I am like 'Oh my gosh doing I really look that stupid all the time'. I just feel like I always look so weird when I am thinking I look normal.

9. What do you hope to get out of this class?

I hope that I can be more confident with my body and look a little bit less weird whenever I am Interacting with people.

10. Where will you be in five years? In ten?

That's a surprise. :)
